I'm in a hut!

I'm exhausted. And excited. What I've seen and experienced just today is mind blowing and probably unimaginable to most of you. But I wasn't ready to let the adventure end. It was hard to leave my team early, but I just didn't want to face a town again...let alone a city!

So here I am, sitting on the top bunk of the McKeller Hut. Funny how being on a top bunk has lost it's excitement for the most part, compared to my first few nights in New Zealand. I've honestly lost count how many times I've slept on a top bunk. But it is quite fun to be sitting here with my back against the wood wall, and my legs propped up on my double thick mattress staring down at the hut below. Anyway...

I'm finally on my way to go meet a friend who is a warden on the Caples track! I'm super excited because I've been wanting to go back ever since I was there about 3 weeks ago...or was it longer? Who knows. Oh and this is my first overnight hike by myself! How exciting right? Normally I would be in the common area socializing, but as I said, I'm exhausted. That was potentially the hardest work week of my life, physically. And I freaking loved it!

My body feels incredible. I've been eating more carbs, butter and oil in the last 6 days than I have in the previous 6 weeks, but I feel phenomenal. Lobster, venison, smoked trout, yum! But then add on the crackers, bread, pasta, cheese, butter, oil, and heaps of weetabix!!! But boy did our bodies need all that energy! Moving almost nonstop, most of the time lifting or pushing heavy objects, fighting through waves, or sharks on your fishing line, from around 7am to 10pm. Wowza! So incredible though! Give me more. I want to do it again!

Okay okay yes I am not hating the fact that the only dishes I had to do tonight was my camping mug and spoon. That's a nice break. And I am oh so looking forward to falling asleep before the sun goes down! It will also be a good rest for my mind to only have to worry about my own well being tomorrow, rather than myself, and three others and loads of expensive equipment and a precious home. Yes I do appreciate this break, but I'd trade it in a second for more adventures and more lessons. Totally addicted to it all.

However, I do realize there are other adventures for me to have. And I look forward to those as well. It will be great once I get access to the internet again and can scan backpackersboard.co.nz to see what cool gigs have popped up. It's going to be incredibly hard to beat this one though. (Sigh). I hope I get to go back again. I do.
